### Goal

Checkmate your opponent's king — trap it so it cannot escape capture. The player who delivers checkmate wins the game!

### How to Play

• Tap a piece to see where it can go, then tap a square to move — or drag it there
• Pawns move forward and capture diagonally
• Knights move in an L-shape and can jump over pieces
• Bishops move diagonally, rooks move in straight lines
• The queen combines rook and bishop moves; the king moves one square in any direction
• On a keyboard: arrows move the cursor, Enter picks up and plays, Escape puts a piece down

### Strategy

• Control the center with your pawns and pieces early
• Develop your knights and bishops before launching attacks
• Castle early to keep your king safe
• Don't bring your queen out too soon
• Think ahead about your opponent's threats
